Frequently Asked Questions
What size of curtain should I order?
We generally recommend that the curtain be about 3” wider and 4” longer than the glass itself, to ensure full coverage. For example, if the glass portion of your door is 24” wide by 68” tall, we’d suggest a finished curtain size of 27” wide by 72” long.
However, this can vary depending on the situation. Your door handle may be very close to the edge of the glass, so that the curtain should be sized so as not to overlap the handle. Or, you may wish to install the curtain higher up on the door, in order to expose more of the glass when the curtain is rolled up, in which case the curtain must be longer than our regular recommendation.
If you wish to do an inside mount for a recessed window, we recommend doing a finished curtain size the exact size of the opening. (sheetrock to sheetrock)
How do I order a custom size?
To order a custom size, please select the option under the Finished Curtain Size/Range menu that includes the needed finished curtain size measurements. Then, put the exact finished curtain measurements in the Curtain Measurements box.
For example, to order a curtain sized 28” wide by 65” long, one would select the ‘Custom 26"-32"W 56-80"L’ option, then put ‘28”Wx65”L’ in the Curtain Measurement box.
How are the curtains installed?
Our curtains install using hook and loop fasteners. The ‘hook’ side has an adhesive backing which attaches directly to the door (or window frame), and the ‘loop’ side is sewn directly onto the back of the curtain. See this short video for illustration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ekaunyYWo0
We can also make the curtains with a rod pocket for installation on a curtain rod, upon request. You can request a ‘rod pocket’ in the order notes. (Curtain rod not included)
The sliding glass door curtains are made with a rod pocket, for installation on a curtain rod.
Are the curtains blackout?
Our curtains provide privacy, but are not made with a blackout liner unless you order a blackout (or the listing specifically states that the curtain is blackout). To have a blackout liner sewn in the curtain, change the Blackout Liner option from no to yes. The blackout liner fabric is sewn inside the curtain, between two layers of the curtain fabric, so the curtain fabric shows to the inside and outside.
Are the curtains machine washable?
No. We recommend spot cleaning only for the majority of our fabrics, using a mild detergent and rinsing the affected area, or using a spot cleaner spray. Machine washing will not damage the curtain per se, but will cause the curtain to shrink up to several inches.
The fabrics which are machine washable will say “washable” in the title.
What is UV Spray?
If you select ‘Yes’ under the UV Spray option, we will treat your window covering with a UV protectant spray before shipping. This will help to keep it from fading under direct sunlight. Darker fabrics in particular are prone to fading when exposed to sunlight over time. You will need to reapply a UV Spray after 2-3 years.
I can see the straps hanging from the back of the curtain; are they removable?
Yes, the straps which are used to hold up a French door curtain when it is rolled/folded up are detachable, so you have the option to remove them when the curtain is down.
How long will it take for my curtain to be delivered?
We guarantee shipping within 3 weeks of the order, and shipping is 2-5 days within the US. If you need your order by a certain time, let us know and we will try to accommodate you. But, please be aware that we do not have any expedited shipping options available at this time.
